Messages to Staff

Dear Chewelah Staff:

Vaccinations

You may have heard about Governor Inslee's announcement yesterday requiring certain state employees to be fully vaccinated.

It is important to note that currently, the vaccination requirement does NOT apply to district employees.

Masks

We have also received questions about mask requirements for the fall. The Department of Health announced on July 27 that the state will continue to require all students and staff to wear face coverings, regardless of vaccination status, in Washington K-12 schools this fall. Specifically:

  1. When indoors, all staff and students must continue to wear face coverings/masks, regardless of vaccination status, when students are present or expected to be present and when transitioning around the building from one workspace to another.
  2. Staff who are verified to be fully vaccinated may be indoors without masks when students are not present or expected to be present. Staff can work maskless at their work station, office, or working alone.
  3. When outdoors, face coverings are not required regardless of vaccination However, masks are strongly recommended for unvaccinated individuals when outdoors in crowded spaces or when in close contact with people from outside their household for a sustained period of time.

We are reviewing other requirements and will provide more information soon.

Jason Perrins, Superintendent
